Walking & running route planner
Draw your next walk or run on a map. Measure the distance, build a loop or an out-and-back, and take the route with you as a GPX file.
Where will you go?
Open the interactive map, then add points along your route.

How to measure a walking or running route
- Open the map and search for your starting area, or pan and zoom.
- Click or tap along the streets and paths you want to follow. With Follow roads and paths on, the next point adds a walking route. Turn it off to add a straight section. Existing sections keep their shape when you switch modes.
- Check your distance in kilometres or miles. Undo a point, close the loop or retrace your route.
- Download your plotted line as a GPX file, or save one route in this browser for later.
Follow roads and paths, or plot freely
Follow roads and paths is on by default. It uses walking routes from the OpenStreetMap network, including mapped paths where available. Add waypoints to guide the route through the streets or paths you prefer. Switch following off before adding the next point when you want to trace an unmapped trail or draw a direct line. This only affects new sections. You can mix roads, paths and straight sections in one route, with the total distance and GPX covering them all.
Mapped routes may be incomplete or out of date. Check access, crossings and local conditions before heading out. The estimated time uses a constant pace and does not include stops.
From a lunchtime loop to your next 10K
Use the planner to compare two routes from home, add a short detour or see how far an out-and-back would take you. Then use the running pace calculator for finish times and kilometre or mile splits.
Explore running in THRYV when you want to record your actual activity.
Your route and data
Save on this device keeps one route in this browser. Download GPX exports a track file. Sections added with Follow roads and paths on send their waypoints to the walking router. Straight sections are calculated locally. Changing the toggle only sets the mode for the next section. Saving uses this browser’s local storage; it does not sync to a THRYV account. Forget saved route removes that local copy.
Opening the map requests map tiles from OpenStreetMap. Place searches send your search text to Photon by komoot. Walking routes use OSRM, hosted by FOSSGIS, with OpenStreetMap data. Saved routes keep each section’s mode and calculated shape. Your route is not sent to a THRYV account.
Common questions
Is this route planner free?
Yes. Plot routes and calculate distance in your browser without creating an account. The map and place search need an internet connection.
Does the route snap to roads or footpaths?
Yes. Follow roads and paths is on by default and finds a walking route between your points. Turn it off before adding a point to draw a straight section. Existing sections keep the mode and shape they were drawn with. If a walking section cannot be found, undo that point or choose Use straight line for this section.
Can I export my walking or running route?
Yes. Add at least two points, name your route and choose Download GPX. The file contains your plotted track points, without elevation, turn instructions or a guarantee of compatibility with every app.
Will the saved route appear in the THRYV app?
No. Save on this device keeps one route in this browser only. The website planner does not currently sync with THRYV or import a route into the app.
